As you may or may not know, the Vivid Racing Project 991 GT3RS has been in our stable of cars since late 2017, and up until this point the only major modification we’ve installed is an Agency Power valved exhaust w/ black tips. We decided it was time to mix it up and make our 991 GT3RS special, so we worked with Five 18 Designs, Brixton Forged, and Agency Power, to do something which no one has ever done before!
Rothmans Inspired Wrap
The most noticeable change to our GT3RS is the Rothmans inspired wrap done by Five 18 Designs. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, Rothmans supported factory Porsche racing, dominating the 24 Hours of Le Mans with their Porsche 956 in 1982. In 1984 Porsche produced the 911 SC RS rally car specifically for Rothmans, which has since become one of the most iconic motorsports liveries of all time.
Rather than just copy the Rothmans livery directly, we took our favorite design elements from multiple Rothmans Porsche cars and blended them into one design. On top of the unique blend of Porsche liveries, we didn’t use the blue color which was found on Rothmans Porsches, rather we just kept the OEM Ultravoilet purple color.
Overall, the design of the wrap is super unique and awesome looking, giving our 991 GT3RS a unique look. It’s a very retro look with the best parts of multiple Rothmans liveries blended together.
Custom Brixton Forged Wheels with Turbofans
Continuing with the retro look, we teamed up with Brixton Forged, who supplied us with custom-made wheels which are designed to accept a set of custom-made turbofans designed by Agency Power. The turbofans are a throwback to motorsports cars from the 1980s, including the Rothmans Porsche 956 which used turbofans front and rear. The turbofans are designed to feed the brakes more cool air, but on our GT3RS it’s mostly just for the awesome retro looks.
Unlike many turbofans you’ll see on show cars or old motorsports cars, we didn’t use a flat shape for our turbofans. The turbofans are concave to match the wheels, which further adds to the unique look. The face of the turbofans features a mesh design from Five 18 Designs to finish up the retro design.
I actually had the opportunity to drive this car to the service lot 2 weeks ago when we had it in for service at Porsche Chandler. It looks even better in person.
Thanks! I was contemplating going back to a stock look but will keep it for a while!
My brother has been planning to have his Porsche customized because he will be using it for the car race. This Rothmans inspired wrap done by Five 18 Designs that you’ve mentioned seems like the type of design that my brother will go for. I agree with you that it’s quite peculiar and has this retro look that I’m sure my brother would love.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love it… Such a good looking livery.
We agree!
