Effect of Forging on Aluminum: Why is it Stronger?

When alloyed aluminum is heated and then cooled quickly, it makes the metal much stronger than if it were simply left to cool naturally. The heating process changes the crystalline structure of the alloy by ‘locking’ together sections of aluminum atoms at different angles. The main difference between cast and forged wheels is that cast wheels are created by pouring molten metal into a mold to form the wheel shape, while forged wheels are made from a single block of aluminum which is pressed into shape using high levels of heat and intense pressure. Forged wheels typically last longer than cast alloy rims because there are fewer weak points in their design.

Are They Stronger than Cast Wheels?
