Who Is Behind Duraclutch?

Duraclutch UTV clutching systems were developed by long-time Polaris engineer and executive Mitchell Johnson. Mr. Johnson has worked on off-road vehicles his entire life. Mitchell’s father, David Johnson, and uncles Edgar and Allen Hetteen started Polaris back in the 1950s. Having grown up at Polaris, he worked there all the way from the time when he was a young boy sweeping floors and filling bolt bins. It was Mitchell Johnson who developed the Polaris ATV “On Demand” four-wheel-drive system. As a matter of fact, several of Polaris’ major products were developed under Mitchell’s supervision and direction at Polaris, including the Sportsman ATV, Ranger Utility Vehicle, and Youth ATV product lines.

What Is a Duraclutch?

A Duraclutch is a whole new clutch system that works similarly to the OEM system but differently at the same time. It is not merely a clutch kit, but a direct replacement for the stock clutch system equipped with a new primary, new secondary, and a new belt. It is manufactured by a dedicated team, two of whom have been with Polaris since the very beginning – so you can rest assured that you are buying from professionals who eat, sleep, and breathe Polaris and can vouch for their products. In fact, all Duraclutch systems are backed by a 5,000-mile warranty or a one-year warranty on the belt and clutches.

Why Buy a Duraclutch?

With Duraclutch, there is no belt slippage when starting and pulling heavy loads. It is different from all other clutch kits out there because the engagement takes place in the internal clutch packs, which means the belt is always engaged. The Duraclutch clutch packs deliver a smooth transition from idle to moving without any jerking motions. It also provides equal or better acceleration and speed when compared to the factory clutch system.

The Duraclutch system distributes positive engine braking on all kits, which proves to be superior in all conditions for downhill control and seamless downhill braking transitions. Special back drive cam profiles are developed to optimize engine braking attributes.

Lastly, the Duraclutch will hold up the same or better than the stock clutch when it's put through the elements. Also, the cleaning procedure for a Duraclutch is the same as for a stock clutch system. When you get a Duraclutch, you can expect the belt to last more than 10,000 miles in some cases. It is recommended that you examine a belt at 5,000 miles in hard use and at 10,000 in normal use.
