Enkei Compe Wheels

What makes the Enkei Compe wheel Special?

Compe is short for competition. Mainly because this wheel is used for competition in the olden days – and even so today in classic car races. Also because the banana-styled wheel is so famous that it has a lot of competition from manufacturers like Panasports, Watanabe, and knock-off Rota’s not worth mentioning. But as we all know, it started from the Minilite wheels used by Mini Cooopers in the sixties.

The Compe is Enkei reviving a classic wheel associated with the heydays of import car racing. The true old school eight-spoke wheel. The Compe has a ribbed lip not available in any classic 8-spoke banana wheels and that will immediately tell you that it is an Enkei wheel.

The genius behind the banana-style wheel is really behind the banana-style wheel. Unlike most modern performance wheels that have visible cuts in the spokes to shed weight, the spokes of the Compe have the cuts behind them. This enables the wheel to look full yet weigh incredibly light.

Though it may be a classic, the Compe is produced using Enkei’s state of the art Durville casting process.  n the Durville process, molten aluminum alloy is poured into the mold from its inner rim side, with the disc side facing downward. The alloy is rapidly quenched and solidifies, starting at the disc side, creating a finer metallic structure, significantly enhancing tensile strength, yield strength and elongation.

Despite its cast construction, the Compe is engineered to pass rigorous testing. Enkei established their own test standard called “Spec-E,” which is tougher than JWL requirements. Enkei’s Spec-E test setting requires a higher drop point in the impact test and 20% more cycles for the rotary bending fatigue and dynamic radial fatigue tests than JWL standards.

The Compe is available in 15 and 16-inch diameters. It is available in Matte Gunmetal or Gloss White finishes.
