A fuel pump is a component of an automobile that transports fuel from a fuel tank to an IC engine's carburetor. A fuel pump is an essential internal combustion (IC) engine. This is because gasoline is expected to maintain the engine is operating. Electric fuel pumps transport fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel injector in engines with fuel injectors. These pumps must deliver fuel at high pressure (usually 30-85 psi) for the fuel injector to feed fuel into the engine.

Most modern vehicles feature an electrical returnless fuel supply system with no fuel pressure regulation. In response to directives from the PCM, a fuel pump driver module (FPDM) or a fuel pump control module (FPCM) controls pressure. Fuel pressure is controlled in these systems by adjusting the fuel pump's speed.
The PCM calculates the amount of fuel pressure required depending on consumption from idle to maximum load, as well as indications from the fuel rail pressure (FRP) and fuel rail temperature (FRT) sensors. These sensors are frequently housed together, and their data will appear on a scan tool.
When the ignition switch is turned on, the pump and control module receives full battery voltage, either via a separate fuel pump circuit or a control module. The control module controls the fuel pump, which uses a pulse width modified duty cycle to control the motor's ground circuit.
