The Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar?? (MT/R - Maximum Traction/Reinforced) is a Goodyear Off-Road Maximum Traction tire designed for light truck drivers who are serious about off-road performance. When it overcomes mud, climbs over boulders, and explores trails, the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar is designed to boost tire robustness.
The silica rubber tire compound shaped into an asymmetric tread pattern on the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar blends off-road performance with on-road control and wet performance. Goodyear's unique mud-flow geometry tread layout improves self-cleaning abilities, while shoulder blocks (which alternate between being stepped in and out) and a wraparound tread pattern on the upper sidewall improve traction in sand, mud ruts, and rocks. The tire's interior construction includes twin steel belts, and it's Goodyear's first off-road tire to use Dupont Kevlar, a revolutionary material that's significantly more powerful than steel pound for pound.
When opposed to the earlier Wrangler MT/R, the inclusion of Kevlar sidewall reinforcement improves cut and puncture resistance in an area of the tire that requires extra toughness when driving off-road (raising sidewall cut and puncture resistance by around 35 percent). When drivers get to the roadway for the ride home, the Kevlar helps to support the sidewalls.
Off-Road Maximum Traction light truck tires, also known as mud tires, are marked with the M+S symbol, but their pretty standard overly large applications, use of extra-large smooth lugs, and lack of snow-biting sipes can make on-road wintertime traction difficult in slush, snow, packed and ice.
The Goodyear Wrangler MT/R is designed to deliver great off-road performance for users of pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, thanks to the use of Dupont Kevlar in the sidewall, which is more durable than steel. This Kevlar model is engineered to take maximum stability to new heights, building on the hugely successful Wrangler MT/R range.
The asymmetric tire pattern and silica tread compound are intended to give strong off-road capabilities and more than reliable on-road traction and stability. Off-road, the wrap-around tread pattern is designed to improve traction in deep mud, sand, gravel, boulders, and any other obstacle that comes in the way.
The Kevlar strengthened sidewall is one of the essential components of this tire's resilience. Goodyear is the first tire manufacturer to use Kevlar, claiming that it gives up to 35% greater cut and puncture protection than the normal Wrangler MT/R. This tire is strong as nails in off-road situations, and it shows.
To improve the tire's self-cleaning abilities, Goodyear incorporates what it calls "advanced mud-flow geometry" in the tread structure. The MT/R Kevlar is a strong mud-terrain challenger, thanks to the stepped in and out shoulder blocks. Sizes range from 15-20 inches, with the LT variants having an E load rating.
