What Makes the SSR GTV01 Special?

SSR is known for their quality 3-piece wheels. It is a formula they have perfected since 1971. But they did not stop there. They also make staggering one piece wheels like the GTV01. The GTV01 is made using SSR’s flow forming technology. The GTV01 features SSR’s racing spirit from every track and every race SSR participated in. It was unveiled at the 2013 SEMA as part of the then new GTV Series of wheels. The GTV01 is one of the entry level one-piece monoblock wheels from SSR. In order to produce the GTV01 with high strength and a low weight, SSR turns to their Advanced Manufacturing Technologies like MHD and HTM.

Magneto Hydro Dynamics

SSR manufactures all one piece wheels using their proprietary SSF technology – which means SSR Flowforming. SSR starts with an MHD (Magneto-Hydro Dynamics) billet piece of aluminum which is heated to a semi-solid semi-molten state. The material is pressed in through the SSF machine at an extremely high rate creating the wheel. It is then cooled down and cleaned via air gun. The wheels are thoroughly inspected for imperfections and are sent to the painting process.

Heat Treatment Manufacture

All of SSR’s wheels go through this, including the 5-spoke GTV01. After the wheels go through a spinning process during manufacturing they are heat treated for a second time. This application of heat increases the strength of the wheel. As a result, the wheels are lighter and stronger making them ideal for hard tuned race cars and heavier vehicles.

The SSR GTV01 also goes through a Dynamic Cornering Fatigue test to test its limits when turning at speed. The Dynamic Cornering Fatigue test is used to examine the fatigue of while cornering. A special machine is used to stimulate cornering on the wheel and it is required for more than 100,000 times based on JWL standard. At the end of this test, the wheel is checked for if there is any sign of deformation or loose lugs.
