SSR Wheels

SSR Wheels

The evolution of the wheel should not be beaten by the evolution of the car. This is SSR’s motto and it has served them well ever since they started making wheels.

It was in 1971 when SSR released the first 3 piece wheel, the MK1. Aluminum wheels were in high demand and resulted in the creation of JWL (Japan Light Alloy Wheel) Certification in 1973.

Since then, the Japanese Government incorporates this certification on aluminum wheels to improve quality and safety. JWL certification involves testing impact strength and endurance strength.

SSR wheels are always put through JWL testing before they are used on the street or track.

In 1981, another statutory board, the VIA (Vehicle Inspection Association), was created to verify JWL testing. Both the JWL and VIA logos are embossed into each wheel which represents dedication to quality control. SSR has always focused on manufacturing precise, lightweight, and strong wheels and will continue this tradition for years to come.

Every SSR wheel features a distinctive racing spirit forged from every track and every race SSR participated in. These wheels were born in the circuit and have been part of the motorsport world, and not just for branding reasons. SSR consistently tests and improves their performance and quality against the best of the best.

From the legendary MK1, the world’s lightest Type-C and Type-F wheels, and modern GT series, SSR wheels continue to evolve. Today, the SSR high-performance wheels are stronger, lighter, and more capable of handling the most challenging tracks!

Advanced Manufacturing Technologies

Today, SSR wheels are manufactured using a proprietary manufacturing process called HTM (Heat Treatment Manufacture).

The wheels pass through a spinning process during manufacturing. They are then heat-treated once again. This heating method makes the wheel even stronger using minimal material. The result is an exceptional combination of strength and lightness that’s perfect for the track.

High Performance Wheels Since Day 1

SSR wheels have a proven track record in racing performance. Today, they offer numerous designs to suit different driving needs and tastes. They include:

1-Piece Wheels

SSR one-piece wheels are seamless, precise, light-weight, and strong.

SSR manufactures all one piece wheels using their proprietary SSF technology. SSR starts with an MHD (Magneto-Hydro Dynamics) billet piece of aluminum which is heated to a semi-solid semi-molten state. The material is pressed in through the SSF machine at an extremely high rate creating the wheel. It is then cooled down and cleaned via air gun. The wheels are thoroughly inspected for imperfections and are sent to the painting process.

2-Piece Wheels

SSR 2 piece wheels feature a barrel as one piece and a face as the second piece.

The advantage of building a 2 piece wheel is SSR's ability to have a variety of offsets that can be calculated in millimeter units.

The wheel starts as a flat piece of circular aluminum which is then sent through a press machine shaping it into a barrel. At this point, the material is very dense allowing the barrel to be lightweight and strong. The barrel is then separated into sections to become multiple wheels and is sent to the polishing process.

Each separated barrel is then precisely inserted with the completed face of the rim and is welded inside barrel based on the choice of offset. This means your SSR wheel can be bespoke if you prefer a certain offset. Wicked cool!

Hybrid 2-Piece Wheels

SSF manufactured faces are welded to an HTM inner barrel using SSR's innovative technology.

By combining both SSF and HTM SSR wheels are light-weight and incredibly strong. The Hybrid 2 Piece wheels feature an SSF face welded to an HTM inner barrel to become one piece.

3-piece Wheels

SSR incorporates the latest technologies in the design and manufacturing of its lightweight 3 piece wheels. Mainly because they have started here and they are continuing to perfect it.

The three-piece wheel is made up of an outer rim, inner rim, and center disc which allows SSR to offer a wide range of offsets and ensures proper fitment specific to your vehicle.

The inner rim of the wheel is heat-treated for strength, using the HTM (Heat Treatment Manufacture) process which allows for the use of a thinner material to save weight. With weight and high strength in mind, each section of the wheel is engineered using separate grades and thickness of aluminum according to its purpose. SSR's racing heritage and manufacturing innovations have allowed the creation of a 3 piece wheel that is both super lightweight and high in strength.
