Enkei can be considered an institution in the world of motorsports. The experience they gained in motorsports in producing lightweight and strong wheels that take a lot of abuse. The TY-5 is such wheel. It is an exciting entry in Enkei’s lightweight Tuning series. Utilizing a sleek combination of a split 5-spoke style with the center styling cues of a mesh wheel, the TY-5 is a great choice for a wide variety of wheels ranging from small sports coupes to full-size luxury cars. Adding to its attractive design is the option of concave and flat face profiles dependent on size and width, and includes Enkei’s signature flat center cap.
Like most of Enkei’s performance wheels, the TY-5 is made using the MAT process. The Most Advanced Technology combines one-piece cast wheel technology with a rim forming technology called spinning process. Using this technique of casting and rim forming is critical to improving the material property and strength of the TY-5. Rim-Rolled technology shapes the rim to improve material elongation without sacrificing the wheels’ hardness. This not only makes the wheel beautiful, it can also take a lot of abuse during spirited driving and racing.
The TY-5 is also subjected to Enkei’s Spec-E testing. Enkei established their own test standard called “Spec-E,” which is tougher than JWL requirements. Enkei’s Spec-E test setting requires a higher drop point in the impact test and 20% more cycles for the rotary bending fatigue and dynamic radial fatigue tests than JWL standards. The Spec-E represents Enkei’s confidence in its technology and quality.
