Fitment for the following models: W205 S205 C205 A205 C63 C63S AMG

The Mercedes W205 C63S AMG intake system is the culmination of extensive development and testing. Our design brief consisted of 3 main objectives: 1) Increased flow rate. 2) Low intake temperatures. 3) Smooth airflow. The first objective was met by utilising all of the limited space available in the C63S engine bay resulting in a 39% higher flow rate over the stock system. The second objective was met by designing a fully sealed system. The C63S engine bay reaches high temperatures with heat sources like the turbos in close proximity to the intake so it is crucial that the intake remains sealed. The final objective was met by designing an organically shaped system with custom rounded panel filters to ensure the airflow path contained no sharp corners and therefore allowed for the flow to remain laminar. With smooth transitions from the filters to the turbo inlets, our intake minimises the formation of turbulence and therefore the turbos are able to operate more efficiently.

With all 3 objectives met, our W205 C63S intake system delivers on all fronts and allows for the turbos to generate boost more efficiently. This results in an improved throttle response and genuine power gains which increase with higher states of tune. Since there are various turbo upgrades available for the C63S we have also catered a specific solution for larger turbos. Our C63S intake is available in 2 configurations: 61mm ID outlets to match the stock and hybrid turbos and 3″ ID outlets to match larger aftermarket turbos.

The Eventuri C63S AMG intake system consists of a number of components engineered to perform a specific purpose and fabricated to the highest of standards.

The airbox assemblies consist of the upper and lower sections which are separated by the filter panels. Each section has been meticulously designed for maximum internal volume whilst ensuring a smooth path for airflow to travel to the turbos. The most challenging aspect of this design was to increase the internal volume of the airboxes in an attempt to increase the flow rate capacity over the stock airboxes. Since the C63S engine bay is so tightly packed, this was only achievable by maximising the total internal height of the airboxes. The biggest increase came from enlarging the upper airbox lids. As can be clearly seen, we have managed to achieve a significant increase in volume while also providing a smoother airflow path.

Side Profile
Looking at the side profile comparison between the stock and the Eventuri airboxes, it is clear that the stock airbox has a restricted space for airflow after the filter in the upper section. It narrows down to just 23mm in height whereas in comparison, the Eventuri system achieves a height of 56mm which is 143% larger than stock. The stock airbox also has a large area on the top section which is taken up by the MAP sensor. This area is taken away from the internal volume and therefore causes another restriction. We have relocated the sensors to the back of the upper sections allowing the full volume above the filters to be useable for airflow. Another consideration is the inlet to the lower airbox which on the stock system has a flexible convoluted section with multiple ridges at 43mm in height. Our system removes these ridges for a smoother entry and increases the height to 74mm.

Front Profile
The front view of the airboxes clearly show how restricted the stock version is. With the upper section narrowing down to just 23mm across a large section, airflow is significantly restricted. In comparison our airbox maintains a much larger area to the turbo inlets. The inlet to the lower section has also been significantly increased in area. The Eventuri inlet is approximately 84% larger in cross sectional area compared to stock.

Bespoke Panel Filter
To achieve optimum airflow we designed custom panel filters which have a double filtration layer of ISO 5011 tested non-woven mesh. The filtration medium is dry so does not require oil which can harm sensitive flow sensors. In addition, we designed them to have a rounded outer profile rather than the traditional rectangular shape which has sharp 90 degree corners. This allowed us to maintain a smoother airbox profile which has no sharp corners thus minimising the onset of turbulence in the flow path.

Looking into the lower airboxes, the difference between the square and rounded corners is clearly visible.

CNC Machined Filter Flanges
A crucial consideration when using panel filters is to ensure that they are properly sealed inside the airboxes at all times. Since we are using prepreg carbon fiber for the airboxes, we could not rely on the relatively large tolerance of carbon construction in comparison to a precision machined component. Therefore we designed flanges CNC machined from a single billet of aluminum and black anodised, which the filters sit inside. These flanges are mounted inside the carbon airboxes and provide a reliable and accurate seal around the rubber profile of the filters.

Carbon Front Ducts
The final components which are updated from our previous EPDM ducts are our carbon fiber front ducts. These connect to the airboxes using our custom EPDM couplers. The carbon ducts are shaped to smoothly transition from the oval shaped air entry openings in the slam panel to the airboxes while maintaining as large a volume as possible.

CNC Machined Mounts Holder
To hold the airboxes in place we use the stock rubber bushes and to hold these bushes we have CNC machined the holders for an exact and secure fitment.

Every aspect of the design was considered in great detail and the end result is a system which sets a new benchmark for intake design on the Mercedes C63S AMG.

Dyno tests were carried out on both a fully stock C63S and a stage 2 C63S which had downpipes and a remap. Below is the dyno graph for the stage 2 car which had the same tune on all runs and only the airbox was changed. Importantly the hood was closed for all runs to simulate road conditions. Dyno testing with the hood open - especially with open cone style intakes does not give a reliable indication of how the intakes are affecting power. On the road the hood is closed and so all the heat from the turbos is trapped in the engine bay. On the C63S this is intense heat which is why a sealed system is so crucial. Dyno testing an open cone system with the hood open will yield gains but once on the road the heat soak will cause a significant detriment to the power with the open cones sucking in the hot air. With higher air temperature being less dense, the turbos will not make as much boost resulting in lower power. Furthermore, once the car is accelerating and the open cone intakes have pulled through the standing hot air present, they will continue to pull in the heat generated by the engine and turbos as they spool. With the engine under load and accelerating, turbos produce a lot of heat which can even be seen with the hot sides glowing red.

Here it can be seen with our fully sealed system that the power increases linearly after 4800rpm where the airflow demand increases and the stock airboxes become a restriction. These performance gains were measured after only changing the stock airbox for the Eventuri intake - all other modifications were present for both the stock airbox and the Eventuri intake.

The gains measured on the dyno translates on the road to increased part throttle and full throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly to the redline. The testing was done on the same day back-to-back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency. The car was tested firstly with the stock intake - hood closed. We then left the car on the dyno and installed the Eventuri. The car was then run again - hood closed. Several runs were carried out with both configurations to get a consistent result.

The following tests were carried out on an Insoric Road Dyno which measures performance data on the road. Tests were carried out in Germany by CF Dynamics on the same stretch of Autobahn on the same day between the stock airbox and the Eventuri system. This particular C63S had a stage 1 tune. As can be seen, after 5000rpm as the flow demand from the engine increases the stock airbox becomes a restriction and gains of 31HP and 39Nm were achieved with the Eventuri intake.

Flow Bench Test Results
We conducted some flow rate tests using a Superflow SF-1020 to measure the maximum flow rate possible at a pressure drop of 28” H2O. Tests were done on the same day in controlled conditions using the same test jig for each system. We tested our sealed intake with our custom filter, the stock airbox with stock filter and an open cone tubular type intake with the intake tube at the same diameter as the stock turbo inlet. Both the left and right side airboxes were tested.

This shows just how restrictive the stock airbox is, which we have managed to improve by up to 41% in maximum possible flow rate. Interestingly the open cone intake, although flowed more than stock, did not flow more than our sealed system. This is because the diameter of the intake tube remains constant all the way from the outlet of the turbo to the cone. So whereas our system dramatically opens in internal volume from outlet to the filter, the open cone system remains at the same smaller cross sectional area. It’s like sucking through a straw vs sucking through a funnel.

How Did Eventuri Start?

When it comes to performance upgrades, it is common for people to think about camshafts, suspensions, pistons turbochargers and superchargers. But equally as important is upgrading your intake system. It is the component responsible for drawing air to engine which is a critical component in its combustion process. Not all intake system are alike and Eventuri is one of the few companies that creates a product that actually works.

Eventuri was founded by a knowledgeable team of engineers and auto enthusiasts who shared a background in aeronautics and tuning, as well as a passion for high-performance cars. Having all these knowledge and expertise under one roof allows the company to create the best performing intake system available in the market.

After owning several intakes and finding them to be disappointing in terms of gains, the team decided to take it upon themselves and make a change. They set out to reinvent the benchmark in the intake market when it comes to design, technology, and engineering. The ultimate goal was to provide real gains to consumers and publish genuine figures that live up to their claims. Today, they are known as one of the most prestigious air intake manufacturers in the automotive industry.

What Makes Eventuri So Special?

With so many aftermarket intakes available in the market, it begs the question, “What is so special about the Eventuri intakes?” Well, there are three elements that help explain what sets Eventuri apart from other brands. The first is the patented Eventuri filter housing design. The second being the brand’s renown bespoke filters. The third is its emphasis on creating a “Complete Solution” and not cutting corners.

Eventuri’s intake systems are extensively developed using cutting-edge designs and undergo rigorous testing and prototyping methods. The company is primarily focused on performance and numbers; therefore, every single design undergoes CFD analysis and is validated during the prototype stage. It’s at this point where intake temperature and volumetric airflow are measured, and dynamometer testing takes place. Eventuri aims to publish all the information and figures to illustrate the depths in manufacturing an effective intake from the concept stage to market.

Eventuri prides itself in using only the best materials for each component of its intake – even down to the choice of fasteners. The company takes extra steps to ensure that the quality of the products are optimal. This makes them set a new standard in the performance industry.

The company pushes itself even further by offering products made out of the most exotic material such as carbon fiber. This material is often seen in race cars and exotic vehicles due to its strength and lightness. It enables the company to cement their position as the industry leader in their market segment.
