While their primary purpose is to better track performance, they produce parts for various applications, including race cars, automobiles, and show cars. Maier Racing's Suspension department began in the late 1960s when Bill Maier began road racing his completely new 1968 Mustang coupe. Bill competed in Trans-Am and the Western States with the local SCCA. He caught up on some of Ford's factory tactics at the time, which they pioneered with the Trans Am teams.
His desire to win races prompted him to make changes that helped him earn Driver of the Year in the Western States in 1976. Today, they provide a tuned baseline suspension for passionate drivers who just want to drive their Mustang through the canyons to autocross and track days. It's easy, logical, and essentially solid.
Bill Maier started fabricating fiberglass parts for 1965-67 Mustangs in San Leandro, California, in the early 1970s. He took a look at the 1965 Shelbys' competition aprons, which removed the stock bumper and came up with a more practical option. Bill created a "gravel shield," a one-piece valence with a hole for enhanced cooling that could be mounted on a car with bumpers.
Later, he would add the front spoiler inspired by the Boss 302 for a more menacing design. Maier Racing has manufactured over 500 molds for iconic Mustangs over the years due to this project and others like it. By 2020, the business will mainly provide parts for Mustangs and Foxbody automobiles from 1965 to 1970. While they focus on those generations, they have templates for any generation from the 1950s to the present. The small quantity of air that gets under the car moves faster, resulting in a low-pressure zone. The increased pressure above the automobile provides downforce, which helps the vehicle stay stuck to the track and improves propulsion and steering tire traction.
