Geolandar X-AT

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT Tires

The Yokohama Geolandar X-AT is a tough all-terrain tire with a dual sidewall construction that can handle tough off-road conditions without sacrificing on-road comfort. The high turn-up carcass and complete nylon cover of the 3-ply sidewall design increase puncture durability, while strong center blocks and combined grooves offer strength and grip. The Geolandar X-AT has a staggered five-block pitch sequence and zig-zag grooves to decrease pattern and road noise, an elliptical contact area, and an HD-2 off-road tread compound that provides toughness, reliability, and extended tread life. All sizes come with a 45,000-mile tread life warranty.

Geolandar X-AT's Off-Road Performance

You can tell the X-AT is built for real off-road grip just by glancing at its 4-row tread pattern. The powerful center block design combines distinctive sipes and grooves for excellent grip. There is enough void space between them to assist evacuate everything, including loose mud and dirt to even bigger rocks. If you match it to any highway terrain tire, you'll notice a significant difference. Similarly, the shoulder blocks of varying sizes are designed to eject rocks. The tire has a 3-ply sidewall for off-road endurance, and the sidewall pattern is built to support the tire from rock cuts.

The On-Road Performance

With the X-AT, we weren't concerned with on-road grip. The tread pattern (the gaps between the lugs and how they function together when the tire rolls) is designed to reduce road noise. In terms of tire life, the contact patch is engineered to provide uniform wear, while a unique tread compound created particularly for this tire provides both tread life on the road and protection to cuts and chips off-road. The Geolandar X-AT is a great new type of tire, and we anticipate other manufacturers to follow suit. If we have one criticism, it's that, although this is a new tire, most popular vehicle fitments are addressed, there are still lots of less-popular sizes that are now unavailable. In essence, our criticism is that we like this tire so much that we believe it should be available to everyone.

Off Road-Traction

To aid with this emphasis, the X-AT has an extreme tread pattern. The tread block design is combined with an equally forceful should to assist in acquiring bite and sweep away smaller debris. One unique feature is that the tire is reversible, with different shoulder tread patterns that the customer can display on the outboard side.

Sidewall Durability

For the all-terrain category, having a three-ply structure is nothing new. The engineering method used by Yokohama to raise the ply layers higher up the sidewall is novel. Six layers of polyester added durability cover a considerable amount of the sidewall as a consequence. The adoption of new curing techniques has also allowed the X-AT to have a thicker sidewall for added trail protection while keeping a lower overall weight than comparable products.

Quiet Ride

It might be difficult to live with a noisy tire. With a specifically engineered tread block sequence, the X-AT overcomes this. However, the considerably more aggressive design, a mix of zig-zagging grooves, and precise pitch angles have produced a tire that is as quiet as its tiny sibling, the Geolandar AT.
