Take the journey with us as we give an employee’s 2017 Dodge Charger RT 5.7 HEMI a full makeover. This mini build turned out quite amazing – not only does the car look aggressive, but it sounds the part and performs it just the same. At the end of the video, you’ll see that this Charger boasts a ton of power to rip around with on the streets and leave the competition in the dust. Without spoiling the entire episode below, let’s delve into some of what we did to get there like installing a new intake, catback exhaust, wheels, and lowering springs. Sounds like the perfect little package of mods, doesn’t it? Well, that’s because it is. We covered all the basic corners to get this car from impressive to extraordinary. We wanted to see exactly what these parts would do, so we started off with a baseline dyno run of the Dodge Charger RT HEMI. After three runs, we determined an average of 330 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. We then put this bad boy on the lift to get it hooked up with some goodies. First up was the Flowmaster Delta Force air intake, which houses a large conical 8-layer cotton gauze air filter. Other features include a custom-molded black XLPE high-flow intake tube, black anodized aluminum fittings, high-quality reinforced silicone couplers, and all stainless steel hardware.
For maximum performance and to achieve that iconic Flowmaster tone, we paired the new Delta Force Performance Air Intake with a Flowmaster stainless steel catback exhaust system. It features dual 3″ 409S stainless steel mandrel-bent tubing that flows into a Scavenger series X-pipe for maximum performance and a unique sporty tone. The race-proven Outlaw Series mufflers flow into large 3″ mandrel-bent tailpipes with high-quality active exhaust valves and are finished off with a pair of 4″ stainless steel tips exiting out the Charger RT’s factory exhaust cutouts.
We also lowered this Charger on H&R Sport Springs and treated it to a new pair of shoes: MRR wheels wrapped in Falcon tires, to be specific. While the finished product looked fast merely at a standstill, we had to hook it back up to the dyno to really see the results. The dyno runs showed us that this Charger RT HEMI gained around 18-19 wheel horsepower and a little over 20 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. The best part is that we picked up power across the entire rev range so, no matter where you are in the RPMs, this car will prove to be a lot more fun on the street. That being said, we took it out on the road to prove just how much joy American muscle can bring.
