K&N Performance Air Intake System for Ford Bronco 2.7L | Is it worth the money??

The Ford Bronco is a model line of sport utility vehicles manufactured and marketed by Ford. The Bronco was the first SUV model developed by the company. The idea behind the Bronco began with Ford product manager Donald N. Frey in the early 1960’s. Engineered by Paul G. Axelrad and approved by Lee Lacocca, the final model was set for production in February 1964. When the Bronco first appeared to the public, it was a direct competitor to the Jeep CJ-5 and a few other SUVs. Initially selling well, following the introduction of the Chevrolet Blazer and Jeep Cherokee – the demand shifted towards SUVs with better on-road capability, leading to a decline in demand for the Bronco. Even though the selling numbers decreased, the love for the Ford Bronco never died.

Five generations of the Bronco were produced and sold from 1966 to 1996 before production completely stopped. Over two decades later, Ford released its sixth generation Bronco in 2021 – keeping the iconic Ford Bronco heritage alive. After being gone for so long, Ford knew they had a huge expectation of living up to, so they did. After the 25-year hiatus, Ford chose to honor the older models by including styling reminescant of the 1966-77 models. They also opted for a 2-door and a 4-door version of the Bronco to further increase the chance of the Bronco being the go-to offroad vehicle for anyone’s needs. With Jeep being the obvious number one competitor to the Bronco, Ford decided to include some of the classic Jeep features. Most noteably, removable doors. However, Ford didn’t just directly copy the removable door feature, they also made it 10x better. All the doors on the Bronco are frameless and can be carried in designated covers inside the vehicle when not in use.

With the history of the Ford Bronco out of the way, you may be wondering how the sixth generation of the Bronco pairs up to todays standards? With multiple engine configurations available, the standard option is the 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four, a very popular choice within Ford’s EcoBoost series. This engine boasts an impressive 300 horsepower with 325 ft/lbs of torque. We don’t hate these power numbers, but we know that we can do better than that – so we developed our own tuning box. Our VR Tuned Tuning Box is a quick & easy fix to get a quick boost of horsepower without having to delve into an entire engine rebuild. Once you have the additional power from our VR Tuning Box, you’re definitely going to need to supply the engine with the proper amount of airflow.

This is why we decided to install the infamous K&N Cold Air Intake, as this was a simple bolt-on modification that not only sounded good – but gave us an incredible feeling behind the steering wheel. The Ford Bronco K&N Cold Air Intake is a high-density polyethylene rotationally-molded tube that helps increase the volume of airflow to your engine and provides a guaranteed increase in horsepower and torque. These systems are paired with a washable and reusable high-flow air filter featuring oiled cotton filter media. The oversized, conical design allows you to go up to 100,000 miles between filter services under normal highway driving conditions. A custom heat shield also helps protect intake air from the high temperature of your engine bay, and the entire system can typically be installed in less than 90 minutes. But how does the K&N Cold Air Intake truly feel behind the wheel of a Ford Bronco? Well, let us show you. Check out THIS VIDEO where we put our heavily modified Bronco to the test.
