Project EVO VIII has been the first of the EVO project cars by companies that has given results, shown its power, and received its 15 minutes of fame. No joke, ever since we brought out our first WRX we have been killing the competition. In fact, we can count 2 USA magazines, 1 Japanese magazine, 3 first place trophies, a IAS spot, SEMA spot, and numerous ads and photo appearances. Bottom line is we have the toys. Between our new website, racing, and other projects we have skipped alot of additions and are sorry! But they have not gone unnoticed. Some of them minor, some major. But nevertheless it is still the project and still in development. To update you on where we are at, we are busy designing a turbo kit that will be cheaper then the competition, and be specific for your needs. That means options. Our engine is getting worked on more then bolt ons to put down big power. Here is our latest addition to the Project EVO VIII you will enjoy. Race Steering Wheel by Personal of Japan.

What is a true JDM car without a JDM steering wheel and quick release hub. We were already to install our wheel and hub when we found out, neither Sparco or MOMO had a hub for our car. Why, the EVO uses a different locking mechanism on the spindle that these companies do not have. Even the Sparco EVO that is so hot and displayed at SEMA had to have a custom setup done. We called our contact in Japan and ordered a Japanese brand hub, quick release, and had it EMS quickly.

When we started to put it together, it was simple. The stock steering wheel comes off with one allen bolt on the left side. Disconnect the battery terminal and slide the wheel off. After you unplug the airbag sensor it is smooth sailing from there. The hub bolts on to the spindle, then the quick release and then the wheel. Everything must align right and that is just trial and error. Once you have the wheel on and plug the horn in, time to drive!

The wheel added some new style to the car and the quick release sure is fun. A good theft deterant! The wheel is a brand called Personal which is a bit smaller then stock. The hub and quick release push the wheel closer to the driver. This gives for better steering in race situations. The feel and fit is awesome and it definitely gives the EVO another 10 points. If you are interested in doing something like this to your EVO, simply give us a call to get the right parts for you!
