Function 8 – Fuel = Power. S-AFC ready to launch.

How do I make power? The question of every person with a car. Well it is easy with a turbo charged car, just turn up the boost, right? Wrong. Boost alone does not make power. Proper tuning of the fuel, ecu, timing, and boost help in achieving maximum power. Since the EVO VIII is new the ECU’s available are hard to come by. That is why we have turned to one of the best fuel control units on the market, ApexI SAFC. The ApexI Super Air Fuel Controller is designed to give you the fuel delivery that you need and want on your EVO VIII in conjunction with your boost control.

The SAFC modifies air-flow meter signal (pressure signal in some vehicles) to optimize fuel-air ratio; Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD). The second-generation S-AFC is a fuel computer that adjusts fuel/air ratio by modifying the air-flow meter/MAP sensor signal. The S-AFC features a user-definable, eight-point, adjustable fuel curve that can be set in 500 RPM increments. The range of fuel adjustment is +/- 50% at each of the user-defined setting points. On hot-wire vehicles, the Deceleration Air Flow Correction function is capable of curing the erratic idle and stall problems associated with open-atmosphere blow-off valves on hot-wire air-flow meter systems. The S-AFC is capable of monitoring and replaying the following data channels in Numerical, Analog Meter and Graph displays: Intake Manifold Vacuum/Boost Pressure, Air Flow Capacity, Intake Manifold Pressure, Karmann Frequency, Engine RPM, Throttle Position, and Air Flow Correction %.

Now that you heard the mumble jumble from ApexI USA website, what in the world is this going to accomplish. Well, after proper fuel tuning, we hope to take our EVO from its 270.5 WHP to a higher torque level and increased power. Where is the dyno graph? Well we are waiting for our downpipe and intake before we give this bad boy a rip. So remember, dont just turn your boost up, give you car some fuel where needed and true power will be released.
