In the past, Honda’s Type R vehicles came equipped with high revving naturally aspirated engines. With the new FK8 Civic Type R, however, Honda changed up their formula by adding a turbocharger to the mix. This allowed for an impressive 306 horsepower and 295 ft-lbs, more than any other Civic before it. Luckily for those Civic Type R owners who like to tinker with their cars, HKS just released their new intercooler piping which should improve airflow and ultimately increase horsepower.
Although you might not think that compressed air is sensitive to the shape of the container it’s in, but it makes quite a difference. The whole idea behind aftermarket intercooler pipes is to smooth out the transition from the turbocharger to intercooler and intercooler to throttle body. The OEM intercooler pipes on the FK8 Civic Type R are cheap rubber hoses that don’t flow very well. By replacing them with the new HKS intercooler pipes, you improve how freely the air travels and slightly increase horsepower and torque.
