Although Toyota did a great job squeezing power out of the 5.7L V8 under the hood of the Tundra, they left a little bit of performance on the table. An engine is just an air pump, so if you can get more air in, you can make more power. This is the whole idea behind an aftermarket intake. The problem with many aftermarket intakes is the lack of protection from hot air inside the engine bay. Luckily, Tundra owners can rejoice, as Injen has just released their new Evolution intake for the 2007 – 2018 Tundra, which features a proper airbox to keep the hot air under the hood away from the intake.
As we mentioned above, this intake used a box to protect the filter from hot air under the hood. The box is made from roto-molded plastic. The box itself keeps hot air out, while also drawing in cold air from the grill area. By using rotomolded plastic, less heat is transferred to the inside of the box. The intake tube is made of the same type of plastic which results in less heat transferred. This all adds up to lower intake air temperatures, which results in denser air, and when combined with more fuel it will result in more power. The massive SuperNanao-Web air filter provides a larger surface area for air to flow through which reduces restriction, further improving power.
