MOMO and Numeric Racing – Perfect Combo Installed in our Porsche 964

Another round of mods for our Project Porsche 964 has been completed with two names synonymous with Porsche cars, MOMO and Numeric Racing. Although the car came with a rare “Special Wishes” (pre-dates Porsche Tequipment) steering wheel on it, it just wasn’t the right driving position and look I wanted for the car. Driving position is extremely important like in any activity. If you are not sitting in the right way, you can reduce the effectiveness you have on the job at hand. The job here is driving hard through mountain roads and long distance road rallies. With the new Recaro seats we just put in, along with me being about 5’9″ tall, I like to sit a little further back so my legs have a slight bend in the knee. However with the current steering wheel setup this requires me to reach nearly straight arm to the stock steering wheel position. Adding the MOMO steering wheel in combination with the MOMO hub designed for the Porsche, and a NRG quick release, pushes the steering wheel back to a more ergonomic position so there is a good 45 degree bend in my arms. This helps reduce fatigue and give you the control with your hands on either side of the steering wheel you need.

When the car was purchased, it already had a short shift kit installed in it. Because it is a Carrera 4, better short shift kits are limited compared to the Carrera 2 models. The car shifts amazing already being it has the G50 5 speed transmission, but the shifter is a reach down to go between the gears. Looking to increase the height of the shifter without changing the through, I went with the Numeric Racing shifter extension and weighted shift knob. The shift knob is made of Delrin so it doesn’t get super hot like aluminum or metal knobs do. The shift pattern finished in red is a great touch to the other accents on the vehicle. But this shift extension is what really helps with keep the overall improvement in ergonomics.
