Phase 2 – Stop, Drop, and Roll Harder

Lets be honest… I lost all the pics of the install of these H&R Club Sport coilovers for our Project M3. So all I got to show you is a pic of it afterwards. You probably are saying to yourself, What a bunch of retards! We except this. In return we say, To freakin bad! Now back to the business of Vivid Racing’s Project M3.

We started this project out by adding the 19 inch DTM Kreuz wheels to it. A great look, added style, and definitely brings out the handling of the E46 M3. However it was still looking like a Tonka Truck with some big wheel gap. Personally I have not had a chance to track this car. Just street drive it. But what I know from my fellow racer friends is that the E46 M3 suspension is pretty well dialed in. It can be compared to the stock EVO VIII suspension, stiff, but comfortable for daily driving. When we decided it was time to give the car a lowered look, and improve on the handling, one name came into mind. H&R!

We choose the H&R Sport Coilover. This coilover which retails at about $2,000, was the ideal choice for our vehicle. Engineered for street and occasional track use, the H&R Club Sport coilover features a fully-threaded shock body (not an imitation sleeve-over) that allows you to precisely dial in height adjustment to achieve optimum weight transfer, or simply get the aggressive look you’ve been looking for. Featuring H&R’s exclusive dynamic damper technology, each shock is engineered to work in harmony with a progressive-rate spring, together creating a finely-tuned suspension system.

The installation of the E46 M3 coilovers is not a quick and easy one. However after you hash through that first one, the steps become faster. Accessing the panels, pulling the stock struts, and then replacing them with the H&R’s will take you about 4 hours. Don’t forget to set up your ride height as well. The best way to do this is by measuring from the bottom of the shock body to the spring collar to get each side equal where you want.

Overal driving impressions… It handled great before. Now the handling is excellent. Low center of gravity, good absorbsion of bumps, and easy tunibility. To get your H&R Coilovers or accessories, visit our H&R store HERE.
