Video: We Equipped this Supercharged Toyota Tundra with 38-Inch Tires!

You may recall that the Vivid Racing team installed the new Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger System on a customer’s Toyota Tundra. The full bolt-on supercharger kit increased the 5.7L V8 truck’s power to a serious 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque at the crank. In our latest video, we took a supercharged 2016 Toyota Tundra beast, dyno tested it, and installed 38-inch tires on it to demonstrate just how beefy tires can affect the performance of your ride. Before we delve deeper into the dyno process and the results we discovered, take a look at the clip below to see it firsthand.

This Toyota Tundra came to us with different gears and had the bigger tire and wheel package sitting in the trunk ready to go. With the baby 20-inch stock wheels and 275/55 tires, this truck ran 450 rear wheel horsepower with 520 pound-feet of torque. We then swapped them out for the massive 38s to see how the power figures would change with a larger setup. It’s important to note that the stock ones weighed about 75 pounds and the new ones are about 145 pounds.

With the bigger wheels and tires, this 2016 Toyota Tundra is down about 40 horsepower to 404 horsepower. So, while the new setup certainly looks amazing and sends the message that this truck is a beast, they do take a toll on the numbers. That’s why it is important to take into account wheel weight and rotational weight. The torque went down to 484 pound-feet, which is not too much torque loss and that could be because of the gears that the owner upgraded in his truck. That being said, the dynos we conducted accurately demonstrate the difference between wheel and tire weight to give you an idea of what you can be facing if you’re in the market for a larger setup.

Even with the decreased power from the massive wheel and tire package, this supercharged Toyota Tundra boasts a 100 horsepower gain and will take to it very well whether you off-road it or not. With that, we conclude the video by taking this beast out to show what it can really do and how good it looks doing it. And the best part, with the Magnuson supercharger, the Tundra runs like a dream and can be an everyday driver as it does not eat up all the gas as most think. It truly is a match made in heaven and, if you don’t believe us, see for yourself!
