Mercedes 63 AMG

The Mercedes AMG 63 series is the top of the line platform for the car manufacture.  Whether you have the normally aspirated V8, supercharged engine, or bi-turbo engine, there is much more to gain from the vehicle.  Tuning the 63 series AMG is extremely beneficial, tapping into the cars hidden potential.  Most all of the new 2012 and up Mercedes AMG feature the new V8 Bi-Turbo engine.  The CLS63, CL63, C63, SL63, G63, all have this engine.  When tuning this AMG engine, it can be done via a ECU flash or a tuning box.  Because the car is turbocharged, you can modified the cars boost, fuel, and timing to gain almost 100hp and 150ft/lbs of torque more than stock.  ECU Tuning Box Kits are a great upgrade because they are plug and play.  They can easily be removed for warranty purposes however they cannot be tuned for things like cat delete on a high flow cat downpipe.  This is where tuning the actual ECU is important.  An ECU flash typically requires the ECU to be removed and sent in to be tuned.  With a ECU flash you can change many of the cars parameters including O2 limits, top speed, torque limiter, and of course boost, fuel, and timing.

In addition to the ECU upgrade on the Mercedes AMG, it is recommend to do the exhaust system.  The turbocharged cars really benefit from a high flow cat or catless downpipe.  Turbochargers do not need back pressure, so the less restriction coming out of the turbo, the better performance the car will have.  Of course the sound will increase.  Downpipes can usually gain around 20-25 horsepower over stock.  It is best to mate the downpipes with a good catback exhaust or muffler system.  Changing out the exhaust will also give you a better tone over stock.  Many of the new vehicles have a valve system in the muffler that changes tone when you reach a certain RPM or press a sport mode.  This can be continued with an aftermarket valvetronic exhaust simulating the same function or you can get rid of this feature with a normal muffler that is always fully open.  Combining a catback and downpipe will give you nearly 40 horsepower and shave up to 60 lbs of weight over stock.

As important as exhaust flow is, intake air flow is also important.  Typically for the Mercedes AMG we recommend replacement panel filters.  Mercedes AMG cars usually have the intake boxes on the top of the engine and do not have room for a full cylindrical filter element.  High flow air filters are replacements for the factory but flow better than stock.  These are reuseable for the life of the vehicle and require cleaning once every 10,000 miles.  If a full cold air intake box is available, this can be more beneficial to the turbo air inlet system.

Along with performance, suspension and handling can really change the Mercedes vehicle.  There is a fine line between sport and race when it comes to upgrading your Mercedes suspension.  We usually recommend going with a set of lowering springs to get that lowered look while retaining the factory electronic suspension.  Coilovers are a better choice with more adjustments in the ride height and how the shock performs.  However some daily driveability can be sacraficed.  For those with electronic air suspension, you can get a electronic lowering module or a set of lowering links.  These products allow you to lower the ride height of your car.

Last is the aesthetics of the Mercedes AMG.  With each type of 63 series AMG having a different body, they can each be customized through aero kits to really change the look of the vehicle.  Front bumpers, lip spoilers, carbon fiber, diffusers, widebody kits are all available for your Mercedes.  A great look is also combined with a set of Forged Wheels.  The Mercedes is all about style and a set of 3 piece forged wheels is usually preferred.  Most customers will go with a plus one size upgrade.  This means that if your vehicle comes stock with 19 inch wheels, you would go with a 20 inch setup.
