Just finished another local customers car with the Agency Power 650 Turbo Kit. For those first time hearing about this, product info is HERE. Here is a little story…
This car was bought used about 6 months ago. It is a 2003 996TT X50. The customer, who I have to say has been a blast to deal with, bought the car stock and it had a Upsolute ECU upgrade on it. The car ran well. We started his upgrade process with a short shifter, then diverter valves and Agency Power intake.
The customer had always been interested in some more power but was unsure. He saw my car and loved the way the 650 kit looked. The selling point for him was actually a ride in the K24/18G car we did with external wastegates. Once the ride was done, we set on a path to get him the AP 650 kit.
First order of business was parts. He had the basics so all we added was the Agency Power exhaust system. Being an X50 he already had the GT2 intercoolers. Since we run external wastegates, controlling boost must be done outside the factory boost solenoid. We installed a Greddy Profec BII unit. The only mod that was left out and could be done later was the Boost Hoses.
Next order of business was the $$$$. $10,800 for the kit plus labor is alot for most of us, so we helped in sell his stock K24 turbos and wheels. Sweet! The $10K turbo kit is now $7000
The customer dropped the car off last tuesday to us. Having all the parts ready to go instock, we spent time in between other customer cars taking apart the stock components and adding the 650 kit. Simple bolt on of the headers, wastegates, turbos, oil tanks, oil lines, and our new water line kit. Adding the 5 bar fuel pressure regulator and some Denso spark plugs, the total install time was about 15 hours. Once it was done on Thursday, it was VRTuned time.
Our original development of the 650 kit had enabled us a perfect tune from VRTuned, so we flashed the ECU through the OBDII port and ran the car on our Mustang AWD Dyno. The car was running 91 octane and we set the boost for a very safe and conservative 1.1bar of boost. On this setup, we can go up to 1.3 bar, but only recommended for 93+ octane. This car is 99% a street car with some spirited driving.
Our first dyno run was good. Since the customer was local and on the dyno, we decided to make a revision to the map to see if we could tweak some more power out of it for 91 octane. And we did for fun…..
Some stress, some ups and downs, and some pressure, but at the end of the day, we made a happy customer. This car is uber clean and I love the navy leather and silver trimmings. All this car needs is to be lowered and I think we have a winner!
The car made a strong 100hp and 100ft/lbs of torque over the flashed K24 car which we thought was very strong. The correct numbers on the dyno screen were about 520hp and 530tq.
