The time has come to beef up project EVO. With every know bolt on available from Japan’s greatest resources, we need to get more POWER! After digging in our closet of toys we decided it was necessary to put on some new HKS cam shafts and cam gears. The HKS cam shafts are available in 264 and 272 lift for both the intake and exhaust. To get the best drivability and power we decided to go with a 264 intake and a 272 exhaust cam shaft. We choose the HKS cam gears because of the easy adjustability of the timing along with the beautiful style the patented HKS purple gives to the engine.
The installation of the cam gears and shafts is not difficult but definitely recommend a professional shop to do the installation. The timing belt must be removed along with the valve cover to start. Once these are off you can get into the work to start taking off stock parts and replacing them with others.
Pay attention to detail as the timing must be set on these. Each cam shaft will need to be lubed when putting them in the car to ensure longevity.
Once both cam shafts are in place, you can begin to focus on the cam gears. These have adjustable timing. Until you talk to your tuner, leave them at 0. They replace the factory ones straight foward. Get the timing belt setup and your almost home.
The addition of the cam shafts and cam gears makes a huge difference in performance of the car. First the cam shafts change the idle of the car to a bit rougher. The torque has a HUGE increase over stock and really snaps your head in place. The cam gears as well add a ton of high end power.
