Function 35 – True Power Revealed

The turbo kit was installed. The wide fenders had been completed. The UTEC was ready to rock. The time had officially come. The Vivid Racing Project EVO VIII needed to prove itself. With all the bolts on complete, the fuel ready, we needed to see what this could do. We called up our local all wheel drive dyno shop to lay the power down. Get ready for total domination!

We all new that the T67 was a big turbo and would truly make some power. Now knowing the Dyno Dynamics generally reads a bit lower then others we kept our expectations safe. Thinking around 400-450 at the wheels on race fuel. Would we get there? We rolled in at about 5pm and immediately drove her in the back aiming at the dyno. With approval from the shop owner we drove on the ramps and into the big rollers.

With straight pump fuel in the system we started the engine and got a baseline with no tuning. 250 whp it ran. That blows. Our top tuner opened up his laptop and went to work on the UTEC to change our fuel and timing. The boost was changed manually with our HKS EVC V. Ripping out a couple or runs the curve started to change. Finally on pump fuel we managed to get out 370 wheel horsepower. That is about 450 or so at the crank. Not bad for 91 octane.

Everyones eyes lit up and it was time. We sucked out the pump fuel and put straight C16 in there. Natures wonder we like to call it. With the gas in place it was time. First run we hit about 390 at the wheels. Everyone looked at each other and was impressed. With a tweak of the boost, pulled some timing, and sprayed down the intercooler we gave it another whirl. 400 wheel horsepower. Clark looked at me and said, I want more. I replied with, You break it, you buy it! We cranked the boost to 27lbs and adjusted the fuel and timing slightly. The 3rd gear pull was loud and as it hit 7200 RPM, we also hit 420 wheel horsepower. That is about 570 or so at the crank! In amazement as this stock clutch and stock motor could handle it, we stopped there. Enough power to scare the crap out of you, but also safe enough to handle.

Pulling the car off the dyno and taking it for a test drive was an experience like no other. With 350 foot pounds of torque, one touch of the throttle and the car ripped at 4000 plus RPM’s. We achieved our goal and were totally stoked on the performance of the the Vivid EVO VIII!
