Our first leg from Santa Fe to Dallas was quite interesting. The first stop included seeing the Cadillac graveyard where a long time ago the owner of the land buried 5 or so Cadillac’s nose up. After some quick pictures, we headed to the big Texas Steak House, home of the 72oz steak. It might be world renown but we were quick to get in and out. The remainder of the drive to Dallas was relaxing as we rolled in a good train including Moe and Matt from Dubai. Arriving in Dallas was a good welcome where all the Gumball cars were packed into a parking lot to show off to the crowds. The Hotel was very swanky and held one incredible party that started around 11pm and headed into the night. Dallas is a great city and full of a fun young crowd.
Dallas to New Orleans was a LONG day. Almost 10 hours of driving, we left Dallas at 8am to head to Hennessey Performance for a lunch stop just west of Houston. At Hennessey they showed off some of their awesome cars including the twin turbo Ford GT, Nissan GT-R, and signature Dodge Viper. The food was actually quite good and before we headed out, we got to run the drag strip in the 7series. With 4 dudes and a car full of luggage, we hit the strip and ran a 15.5 in the 1/4mile. Watch out world, the 750LI is coming strong! We bounced out and pointed our car towards New Orleans for the remainder of the journey. With BMX legend Dave Mirra now in our car, we had some good laughs and a pretty safe drive. While traveling in a small pack of cars which included Rick Thorne and other Monster Energy athletes, we were pulled over by the New Orleans highway patrol. Matt was driving and was pulled out of the car, for questioning. In the end, the officer just wanted to know what was going on!
We reached New Orleans at about 9pm where Bourbon street was already packed. After a quick dinner we headed to some private Gumball 3000 parties. It was quite amazing to be walking around and think that only 3 years ago this city was completely devistated and under water. We are back on the road this morning and headed to Orlando. This is one of the longer journeys. We do have a race track stop today so stay tuned for footage! www.vividracing.com/gumball3000.
