The Blue Oval unveiled the redesigned Ford Ranger last fall, which is expected to hit dealerships later this year as a 2023 model. Like its predecessor, the Ranger will also have a high-performance Ranger Raptor version that will have its world debut tomorrow, February 22nd. Ford also released some teaser shots of the prototype along with a video to keep enthusiasts excited about and anticipating the new variant. The video shows the flagship truck playing in the sand and showing off its impressive suspension leaving a trail of some serious dust behind it. Listen closely, as you will get some hints about the powertrain as well.
As is the usual case with Ranger models, expect more of this model compared to its lesser trim levels, as well as an imposing front grille featuring the large iconic “FORD” lettering. The clip below shows the 2023 Ranger Raptor adorned in camo being pushed (to its limits?) with a full roll cage and no headliner. A look inside reveals bucket seats that hold you in place, but those won’t make it to production as they were solely used for the testing phase. You can also notice the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, which likely send the power to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. Check out the video and draw your own conclusions below!

From the info and sound clips thus far, it is understood that the Ranger Raptor will be powered by a gasoline mill in place of the twin-turbo diesel engine from the previous model. Considering that the redesigned Ranger and Bronco are siblings, we can assume that it will have the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 under the hood as the recently revealed 2022 Bronco Raptor has. Even so, a diesel engine is rumored to still be an option for the 2023 Ranger Raptor in some other markets. Final specs for the engine are yet to be released but Ford did say that the Bronco Raptor has an output of at least 400 horsepower. That’s a great starting point and with some mods, it leaves a lot of room for added potential when it comes to the power numbers game. Apart from the powertrain, you can expect the new Ranger Raptor to enjoy the same off-road goodies as the Bronco Raptor. This includes Fox 3.1 internal bypass semi-active dampers, similar Ford F-150 Raptor springs, and off-road tires that hug a set of bold 17-inch wheels.
With all that said, we are impatiently awaiting the reveal scheduled for tomorrow, as we are sure you are too. We have attached a link to the live unveiling here so you can see the magic as it happens! We also look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Ranger Raptor in the comment section below.
