The iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI is probably one of the top most modded vehicles next to a Honda Civic. It has continually advanced into a dominant competitor with it’s Golf R platform. The 2.0L Turbocharged engine makes just shy over 300 horsepower and combined with the all wheel drive DSG drivetrain, it is an absolute beast. The car does 0-60 in 4.6secs for roughly $40,000. Compare that to an almost $150,000 Mercedes AMG GT63s with a 4.0L V8 Bi-Turbo doing 3.0 secs, that’s pretty good! Even more so, to blow the doors off some of these super sedans doesn’t take much money in mods.
One thing that is always overlooked in vehicles is rotational mass. Each 1lb of rotational mass saved in wheels, rotors, flywheels, pulleys for example is equivalent to 3lbs. So upgrading to a set of forged wheels can really improve those 0-60 times.
