Quick History
The first two models of the Infiniti G were based on the Nissan Primera. The third and fourth generations of Nissan Skylines imported into the United States, and Canada were rebadged. The hardtop coupe convertible debuted in the fourth generation (V36) and is now in use. To distinguish them from one another, starting with the 2014 model year, all passenger cars will be designated by the letter “Q,” while sport utility vehicle model names will begin with the letters “QX.”

First Generation
Infiniti’s first premium automobile in the United States from 1990 to 2002, while the G20 remained production until 2002. The Nissan Primera sedan was rebadged for the European market as this car. The G20 was the first front-wheel-drive vehicle to incorporate Nissan’s multi-link front suspension, with an independent MacPherson strut configuration at the back. The HP10 (P10) and HP11 (G20) are two distinct generations of the G20 in the United States (P11).
Second Generation
G20’s second generation was launched in 1998 and went on sale as a model for 1999 year. Multi-link beam rear suspension was used like the 1995–1999 Nissan Maxima. The P11’s weight distribution is 61% in front and 39% in the back, with a lateral grip figure ranging from 0.80 to 0.94g. All bar the cloth-seat Luxury versions were equipped with automatic temperature control as standard equipment.
Third Generation
On March 12, 2002, Infiniti launched the G35, the Infiniti G (V35), in North America. The Nissan XVL Concept sports sedan, designed by Hiroshi Hasegawa, was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1999 and at the North American International Auto Show in January 2000 as the Nissan XVL Concept. The coupé was completed in late 2000. For marketing objectives and its closeness in sound to the letter J,” says Nissan Motors CEO Carlos Ghosn, “the letter G was selected.”
Fourth Generation
These vehicles were debuted for the 2007 and 2008 model years, respectively. With a 3.5 L VQ35HR engine and an optional 6-speed manual gearbox, the G sedan’s fourth generation was introduced in November 2006 as a 2007 model. The 3.7L VQ37VHR engine powered the second-generation G coupe, sold in August 2007 as a 2008 model. Automatic transmissions were updated for 2009, and both models received self-healing paint. Several interior and cosmetic improvements and enhancements were made to the V36 platform for 2010 and a mid-product cycle refresh for the sedan to keep it fresh for 2011.
Safety
For model years 2003-2004, the Infiniti G35 was the safest luxury mid-size car and the second safest vehicle in general. All G models are equipped with twin front airbags, front, and rear side curtain airbags, and front and rear side torso airbags as standard equipment. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety granted it a “Good” grade in both the “Front Offset” and “Side Impact” crash tests.
