To achieve the ultimate goal, the VR Forged D07 wheels are designed in CAD by analyzing each cut and corner. All their wheels meet the stringent VIA and JWL certification requirements, which are significantly more important than cost savings. Each vehicle's forged wheels are custom-made and load-rated to guarantee the highest level of safety. All wheels begin with a raw aluminum rod, which is then cut to the appropriate length. Each aluminum rod is subjected to additional testing to ensure that it conforms to predetermined specifications. From here, the aluminum rods are transferred to a furnace to reach the optimal forging temperature. The rods are then forged using high-tonnage hydraulic machines. Using a 10,000-ton press, everything is inspected and verified to ensure that the forgings are of the highest quality. The forging undergoes machining to create a wheel shape that is more recognizable. This is accomplished by a 6-shaft LEIFELD machine with three rotary wheels. Each forging is now subjected to a series of heat treatments that allow the wrought aluminum to acquire a more stable internal structure while simultaneously increasing its mechanical strength and hardness. The CNC machine shop is responsible for the final shaping of the aluminum wheels into their intended artistic forms. The process of machining the forged blank into a wheel commences using vertical double-turret CNC lathes and a horizontal CNC lathe. As soon as the machining process for a wheel is complete, it is transported to a workshop that has special inspection checkpoints for every wheel.
