Changing a turbocharger to the internal combustion engine is one of the latest, simplest, and most powerful ways to improve power and efficiency without creating a larger engine. An air compressor at the top of the engine is a turbo or 'turbo-supercharger' which is its official name.

With turbocharging, the forced air induction is accomplished, which means feeding the engine with a mixture of oxygen-rich air-fuel that boosts it. Its main purpose is to force increased air pressure into the engine cylinders, which results in a slightly higher output of gas and an improved efficiency. The engine also has a higher torque. In contrast to superchargers which derive direct power from the engine, turbos are driven by the gas exhaust. To control the boost levels in your turbo car, an ELECTRONIC BOOST CONTROLLER is what you need.

An Electronic Boost Controller is a system to monitor the rising level generated in a supercharged or turbocharged engine intake by influencing the pneumatic and mechanical wastegate actuator air pressures. A Boost Control can be an easy to build manual control or can be used in a turbocharged factory or like our Electronic Boost Controller as part of the engine management computer.

Turbocharger boost control is a great workaround for those speed junkies who want to tune with peace of mind more aggressively. Our Electronic Boost Controllers are designed to administer the intensity of multiple pressure by adjusting the amount of pressure to the waste device so that tuners can safely improve their output.

This HP tuner can accurately alter the pressure signal obtained by the wastegate actuator by loosening an adjustable level of pressure, which lets the turbo generate a new higher level of boost. This is a high pressure that is greater than the normal wastegate actuator pressure.

Turbo systems are electronically operated by a solenoid valve, found on most modern automobiles. Our Electronic Boost Controllers are much bigger, stronger, and more precise. In comparison with mechanical controls, they require a bit more technical expertise for installation but offer many boost settings for different driving conditions.

Mechanical controllers work with a switch and are a perfect way to use a turbo boost control. They do not deliver an array of electronic booster features but are very simple in installation, secure, and easy to install with our Electronic Boost Controller. They have up to two settings for the driver and need zero maintenance.

Without an Electronic Boost Controller, air pressure is fed from the charge air (compressed side) of the turbocharger directly to the wastegate actuator via a vacuum hose. This air pressure can be produced from somewhere after the turbo, even when the throttle is less normal. The air pressure forces a spring force on the wastegate actuator, allowing the exhaust gas to be opened and diverted to prevent it from touching the turbine wheel.

The spring's spring rate speed and preload define in this basic configuration how much the pressure is increased by the machine. Springs are characterized by their standard boost pressure, such as a "7 psi spring" that will allow the turbocharger to reach equilibrium at approximately 7 psi (0.48 bar).

Our Electronic Boost Controller includes a solenoid air control unit or a stepper driven motor. The theory that governs the pressure of air applied to the wastegate actuator shall be enforced by a manual controller. Further control and intelligent algorithms can be developed and the actual boost pressure applied to the motor improved and controlled.
