Audi R8 Power

Audi R8 Performance Parts

The Audi R8 is the pinnacle of Audi performance, with their mid-engine supercar achieving amazing handling and power results. It's on par with the performance of many of its German and Italian competitors, while also offering a superb luxury driving experience. The 4.2L V8 engine outputs an impressive 414bhp while the 5.2L V10 gives the R8 525bhp.

Unfortunately, the naturally aspirated nature of the R8 makes it more difficult to increase power output than a turbocharged vehicle, but with the right modifications you massively improve the performance of your R8. To help you find the right modifications for your R8, we've compiled all our best offerings on this page!

Audi R8 Exhaust Systems

One of the first modifications you should install on your R8 is an aftermarket exhaust system. While the OEM sounds decent, it doesn't sound nearly as good as loud aftermarket exhaust. Not only are you getting more sound, but most aftermarket systems are lighter than the stock exhaust and also increase horsepower.

Capristo Exhaust

One of the most popular exhaust systems on the aftermarket for the R8 is from Capristo. As a matter of fact, this is the single best selling aftermarket R8 exhaust in the world. The reason for Capristo's popularity is their excellent blend of quality and performance.

They offer systems for all years and variants of the R8. Many of their systems are valved and constructed from high-quality T309 stainless steel, which has similar properties to Inconel.

Armytrix Exhaust

For Audi R8 owners who want a really loud exhaust with valve functionality, Armytrix is a very popular choice. They offer systems for V8 and V10 R8s, as well as Gen 2 V10 models.

What's unique about their systems is the lightweight titanium construction, which is upwards of 21kg lighter than the OEM exhaust. Armytrix's wireless valvetronic wiring is a plug-and-play system, no cutting, alteration or damage will be done to the factory settings!

Audi R8 Intake Systems

While you are improving the exhaust flow out of the vehicle, you can also improve the air flow to the vehicle with new high flow air filters or a cold air intake kit. Cars need to breathe well and that is where these products will help your vehicle get up to speed more quickly. Flat Panel Replacement Filters are designed to work like stock but flow more air and are resuseable for the life of the vehicle.

They just need to be kept clean every 10,000 miles and if they are oil filters, re-oil them. Cold air intake kits are available for the Audi R8 4.2L and 5.2L engines. These typically include a intake box made out of durable plastic or carbon fiber which house a new filter element designed to greatly improve air flow into the engine. When looking to purchase an intake kit, you want to consider the box construction and filter type for continued use on your vehicle.

Audi R8 ECU Tuning

With the in and out flow taken care of, the next best ugprade is to remap the ECU of the Audi R8. ECU Tuning changes the cars fuel and timing maps. In addition to these tables, the vehicles torque limiter can be changed, throttle response improved, top speed limiter removed, O2 sensors changed for catless or high flow cat exhausts, and much more. People often ask why Audi would not do this from the factory and the answer is they must meet USA regulations for emissions and safety/fuel ratings.

In fact many ECU's already have the next generation of vehicle mapping on them as the ECU usually does not change unless it is a full platform redesign. The Audi R8 up to 2012 can be flashed via the OBDII port. 2013 and newer cars can only have the ECU flashed in boot mode which means you must mail in your ECU into the tuner to do.

Audi R8 Forced Induction

If you are really looking to improve the power of your Audi R8, there is no other money well spent than on forced induction. Forced induction is a term for supercharging or turbocharging your Audi R8. The V10 and V8 models have a OEM style supercharger available from VF Engineering which improves the cars performance nearly 100 horsepower from stock.

The price per horsepower gained is well worth the investment compare to buying each bolt-on modification. With this supercharger, it can be reverted back to stock without having lost a bunch of OEM functionality that other kits require.

More Great Mods

In addition to performance, the Audi R8 has quite the aesthetic enhancements available. Everything from widebody kits, carbon fiber rear wings, lip spoilers and more are available for the R8 chassis. With aero kits you can also choose to upgrade your wheels. Most R8 owners choose to do a 1 piece or 3 piece forged wheel.

1 piece forged wheels are much lighter than stock. For those that want to reuse your OEM tires, you can stay with the stock sizes but get a slightly more aggressive offset to bring the wheels flush to the fender. You can also improve the vehicles stance with a set of lowering springs or coilovers.
