Starting with a billet of 6,000 series of aluminum or special magnesium alloys, every BBS forged wheel uses our special multi-stage die-forging process, which can take up to 18 million pounds of pressure to produce. Each stage of production is optimized to help create the best forged wheel in the industry. BBS forged wheels are not only light, they have been designed to optimize the stiffness to weight ratio while ensuring the safety and long-term durability expected of BBS.

A favorite around the world for decades, the cross spoke design is the symbol of BBS itself. The spinning of the wheel creates greater centrifugal force as the distance from the center increases. We use multiple presses and multiple high-precision dies, forging each wheel in several stages. After first defining its basic shape, we form the wheel until all of the fine details of its design are in place.

It’s a process that BBS developed early and have refined it ever since, as it leads to wheels that are both surprisingly light and amazingly strong. As proof of these qualities and the forging process that generates them, you will find extremely fine, orderly, and consistent metal flow lines throughout each wheel that they craft. What is Die-Forging?

Die-Forging is a non-cutting process for forming material in a heated, solid state. They are further enhanced in a complex forging process in order to generate the highest material density and weight reduction at the highest performance from our high-strength and durable aluminum or magnesium alloys. This involves placing the heated star hub or the entire wheel blank in a press and compressing it in several working steps at 5000 to 8000 tons of closing pressure to further densify the material in a special form known as the matrix.

Between the individual work steps, the blank is repeatedly heated to approximately 400 degrees centigrade. As a result of the optimal material structure, especially in areas of high strain, the wheel can be smaller in size and is therefore lighter in weight.
