OEM Front Bumpers

OEM Front Bumpers

The purpose of the front and rear bumpers is to shield the body and key safety components such as lights from the destruction caused by minor collisions. The design of bumpers has changed throughout time, moving from basic metal bars to plastic-covered reinforcing bars, and these modifications have had a direct impact on their performance. We have front bumpers, reinforcements, moldings, trim, inserts, brackets, and hardware, as well as associated equipment like grilles, headlights, and tail lights, no matter how your vehicle, truck, or SUVs bumpers are manufactured.

Despite being patented in 1905, the car bumper did not become widely used until the 1920s. The initial bumpers were utilitarian metal beams that swelled outward on brackets, with chrome plating acting as the only stylistic touch. However, bumpers have increasingly withdrawn into the body and become integrated into vehicle design, offering little safety in the end. In the 1970s, the federal government jumped in and implemented 5-mph bumper restrictions in response to rising collision damage repair costs, resulting in awkward "Armco" style bumper extensions and unattractive aesthetics.

Importance of Front Bumpers

The function of a bumper on a car is somewhat precise. Many people believe that it aims to prevent or decrease the severity of injury in a car accident. Bumpers aren't considered safety features because they don't protect occupants. Bumpers are designed to mitigate or prevent physical damage to cars' front and rear ends in low-speed collisions. The bumpers all protect the hood, grille, trunk, exhaust, gasoline, and cooling systems. A bumper is a protective shield made of metal, aluminum, rubber, or plastic. It absorbs the impact of car collisions.

Standard Front Bumpers

The standard specifies that the bumper should protect between 16 and 20 inches just above the road surface. It also claims that barrier impact velocities of 2.5 mph throughout the full width and 1.5 mph on the corners should not cause damage to the front and rear bumpers. The manufacturer is free to accomplish these tasks in whatever way they see fit. For example, if bumper shields and corner guards are perfectly positioned, they don't need to have a bumper that goes all the way across. You might believe that all vehicles must adhere to federal bumper regulations.

That, however, is not the case. Only passenger vehicles, such as automobiles, minivans, SUVs, and pickup trucks, are covered by this Federal standard. These rules do not apply to any other vehicle type. Because a bumper could endanger loading ramp activities or off-road scenarios, this is the case.

The clean, sculpted contours of today's cars are primarily due to those annoying 5-mph bumpers. Designers had to figure out a method to follow the rules while still creating appealing vehicles. Today's "soft" plastic covers made it simple to conceal the actual bumper mechanism while also creating panels that blended in with the sheet metal, lighting, and grille for an attractive overall aesthetic.

This change, combined with a need to make cars lightweight and more fuel-efficient, signaled the end of chrome bumpers, at least on automobiles. Today, chrome metal bumpers are almost exclusively found on trucks. However, whether you have a late-model or historic automobile or truck with plastic-colored or chrome-plated steel bumpers, we have replacement components.
