A high-wear-resistant rear tire compound that has recently been reformulated delivers improved chipping, tearing, and wear appearance. The carcass of the Geomax AT81 tire is made up of two plys of nylon wrapped in a third ply of polyester to create a sturdy foundation, and the shoulder knobs feature lateral grooves that serve two purposes: first, they provide additional biting edges, and second, they allow the knobs to be more flexible. The in-line arrangement of the rear center blocks produces a larger contact patch, which in turn results in increased traction. Dunlop put a "plush pad" recess between the tread blocks to make them more flexible, which makes them better at absorbing bumps and making the ride more comfortable.
All of these elements contribute to a balanced carcass tension that allows the Geomax AT81 to conform better to shifting terrain conditions, resulting in a new level of off-road riding capability.
