KAWASAKI HISTORY

Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. (KMM) is home to Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., U.S.A. (KMM). Kawasaki was the very first foreign automaker to establish a plant in the United States. Several foresighted Kawasaki executives conceived the idea in 1974, and it was straightforward. Years later, companies such as Nissan, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Honda followed Kawasaki's example. Since employees are the most crucial aspect of any organization, KMM aims to provide safe and comfortable working conditions. Employees at Kawasaki, working as a team, ensure that all procedures adhere to the same quality standards. Each employee is personally accountable for quality and takes delight in a job well done.

Since its establishment in 1974, the Lincoln consumer products manufacturing facility, situated on 335 acres of land, has expanded from its original 286,000 square feet to almost 1.3 million sq. ft. of manufacturing, office, and warehouse space. The completion of the rail car facility at the Lincoln site in 2001 added a total of 437,000 square feet of space that could be used for the production of light rail cars. KMM is a large employer in the Lincoln region, employing over a thousand employees at its Lincoln sites. In 1989, production of general-purpose engines began at the Maryville Plant. The Maryville factory has expanded to encompass over 700,000 sq ft on 113.7 acres of land and employs more than 600 individuals. The KMM Research & Development Centers are positioned at the Lincoln and Maryville sites in order to satisfy customer needs as rapidly as possible. The facility utilizes a "just in time" supply system that prevents costly inventory storage and over-ordering of components. They are pretty pleased with the innovative Kawasaki Production System, which combines the most effective Japanese and American production practices. For instance, various parts and pieces are manufactured on the assembly line using specialized presses. This implies there are no shortages or surpluses of these commodities, resulting in greater efficiency and lower costs. In many instances, it also means that the worker fabricated the component he assembled, and thus feels a complete sense of accomplishment.
