Porsche 991 Exhaust

The Porsche 991 Carrera, GT3, and Turbo vehicles can truly benefit from an exhaust.  Each Porsche 991 model exhaust configuration is different than the other, but upgrading the 991 exhaust system is the first process in modifications.  From the factory, Porsche 991 exhausts are quiet.  An aftermarket exhaust will give the car a more sports car like exhaust tone.  This even goes for the GT3 and GT3RS 991 exhaust.  When you do an exhaust system on a naturally aspirated car such as the 991 Carrera or Targa, you need to have a fine balance between backpressure and sound.  These cars still need good backpressure to produce torque.  A free flowing exhaust would be very loud and only yield top end gains.  Where on a 991 Turbo Exhaust, you want as least restriction as possible for the turbos to breathe.  Porsche 991 models all share 3 characteristics that are the same: mufflers, catalytic converters, and headers.

On the Porsche 991 Carrera and GT3, it is recommended to do just the muffler for sound and flow.  Side mufflers save weight, but do not produce much power or sound over stock.  On the 991 Turbo, the biggest gain is doing the headers and cat pipes.  But for sound, upgrading the muffler to a X or U pipe design is important.  Vivid Racing carries exhaust parts for each Porsche 991 model.  Popular brands such as TechArt, Fabspeed, Agency Power, Akrapovic, ArmyTrix all have Porsche 991 exhaust applications.
