This is why intercoolers are frequently used in conjunction with turbochargers. The cooler a gas is, the denser the intake air, and the more oxygen per unit volume it contains, which is then delivered to the engine, the more power can be generated. By limiting the heat generated by the exhaust gases on the hot side of the turbocharger and away from the cool side and intake channel, more oxygen per unit volume reaches the engine, and thus, more power.
