BBS RI-D Wheels

BBS RI-D | What Makes it Special?

Duralumin is a trade name for one of the earliest types of age-hardenable aluminum alloys. It is a mixture of aluminum, copper, manganese, and magnesium.

Interestingly, like BBS, duralumin was developed in Germany by metallurgist Alfred Wilm.

The only reason we took a history lesson about duralumin is because of the BBS RI-D. The one-piece, forged-aluminum RI-D wheels are made from a special 7000 series alloy that helps make this wheel as light and strong as possible. Starting from a billet of 6000 series aluminum, or a special magnesium alloy, every BBS forged wheel uses a special multi-stage die-forging process, which can require up to 18 million pounds of pressure to produce.

The RI-D was introduced by BBS in 2011 as the world’s only forged extra-super duralumin wheel. Going beyond even the super-strong aluminum alloy duralumin, extra-super duralumin is valued in the aerospace industry for its ultra-high strength and durability. Taking advantage of these characteristics, this ultra-light wheel features a design with 5 cross spokes.

Though BBS is a German company, the RI-D is produced by BBS-Japan. The RI-D is covered by U.S. Pat. D606,921 and European OHIM Reg. No. 000 803 952 which means that you won’t get a wheel of this caliber anywhere else on the market.

Want the best wheels for your performance car, a wheel developed for racing, and a car that will stop anybody in their tracks? The BBS RI-D is the wheel for you.
