Scorpion Verde (Italian for green) is Pirelli's efficient and environmentally friendly Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season run-flat tire intended for drivers of sport utility vehicles, crossovers, and prestige trucks. Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology is included on the Scorpion Verde All Season Run Flat tires, which improves comfort and security by allowing temporarily prolonged motion in the case of a puncture that leads to full air loss pressure.
Unless otherwise indicated by the car maker for Original Equipment tires, Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology enables tires to essentially "run-flat" for up to 50 miles at 50 mph (80 km at 80 km/h).
When compared to Pirelli's previous CUV/SUV tire lines, the Ecoimpact* symbols on the Scorpion Verde All Season Run Flat sidewalls emphasize the tire's ecologically beneficial contribution to enhancing vehicle fuel efficiency and lowering CO2 emissions. The Scorpion Verde All Season Run Flat is developed to provide all-season traction in mild snow, as well as dry and wet road handling, relaxation, and year-round performance.
The Scorpion Verde All Season Run Flat blends dry road traction and performance with consistent wear by molding a silica tread compound into an asymmetric tread pattern with an optimum rubber-to-void ratio and consistent contact patch.
While longitudinal siping offers lateral stiffness on uneven roads and high-density lateral siping promotes wet and wintertime traction, four wide circular grooves remove water to minimize hydroplaning and improve wet traction. On upper edge of a polyester cord structure, the tire's interior construction features twin steel belts for strength and longevity.
Pirelli's extended transportation solution is enabled by their MIRS computer-controlled fully automated production technologies, which ensures uniformity in the application of the extra sidewall stabilizers that allow self-supporting run-flat capabilities.
Though they cannot be marketed as run-flat tires, tires labeled with MOExtended or MOE on their sidewalls provide run-flat-like features by offering restricted temporary prolonged mobility when a puncture results in total loss of air pressure. MOExtended or MOE tires will not have the same speed or range endurance as traditional run-flat tires, hence they can not be used in any scenario where a traditional run-flat tire is necessary.
