Enkei TSR-X | What Makes it Special?

There are large-diameter wheels for today’s cars. And then there is this, the Enkei TSR-X. It is Enkei’s version of a 20-inch tuning wheel.

Okay, being 20-inches doesn’t really make it special because it is a common size this day and age. But this is Enkei’s very first wheel whose diameter doesn’t end in –teen. 

The TSR-X features a sexy split 5-spoke design with cutlets to reduce weight. This wheel is a result of increasing customer demand for a lightweight 20-inch wheel.

The secret to such a big wheel’s relatively lightweight in Enkei’s world-renowned MAT process. The Most Advanced Technology combines one-piece cast wheel technology with a rim forming technology called spinning process. Using this technique of casting and rim forming is critical to improving the material property and strength of the wheels. Rim-Rolled technology shapes the rim to improve material elongation without sacrificing the wheels’ hardness.

20-inch wheels need to be tough. Because to be able to fit them, in a car, means rolling on rubber band tires. And tires with such low profiles tend to deal more abuse to wheels compared to tires with meaty sidewalls. 

More so, the TSR-X is tested via Enkei’s more stringent Spec-E test which takes the JWL standard even higher. As in higher drop points and more cycles.

Enkei’s Spec-E test setting requires a higher drop point in the impact test and 20% more cycles for the rotary bending fatigue and dynamic radial fatigue tests than JWL standards. Which is good because it means the TSR-X remains strong even if only a sliver of rubber is what separates it from the pavement.
