The owner of Vintage Air, Jack Chisenhall, was recently presented with the Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award at the thirteenth annual Hot Rod & Restoration Trade Show. In 1976, when he founded Vintage Air, Jack invented the entire aftermarket air conditioning industry for the hot rod industry. His father was an Air Force master sergeant, so shortly after Jack's birth, the family relocated to New Isenberg, Germany. Jack enrolled at Southwest Texas State University and joined the ROTC program after graduating from high school. In 1970, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commercial Art and joined the Air Force as a first lieutenant, where he received pilot training. In addition to developing and manufacturing kits for street rods and muscle cars, Vintage Air has collaborated with a number of original equipment manufacturers to meet their demand for performance climate control systems. Jack is a strong supporter of the Young Guys program of the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association and a sponsor of the NSRA 29 Below program. Jack, who lived in the sweltering heat of South Texas, decided he wanted air conditioning for his own hot rod, but saw that his only real option was to adapt a factory OEM system.
