You automatically think of off-road adventure when you hear the words Dick Cepek. Dick Cepek was an ardent hunter and fisherman who liked outdoor sports. Off-roading in the Southwestern desert regions became his interest once he went West. His hobby quickly turned into a company, and he started a well-known aftermarket off-road component firm. Dick Cepek's goods at the time included tires, lighting, and suspension and his signature "Baja Proven" camping equipment for a variety of vehicles, including ATVs.
In 1966, Dick returned to the peninsula with his buddy Ed Pearlman to retrace his steps. The first official Baja 1000 was held this year, and Dick and Ed came in second place. It was not long after that. In 1967, Dick established his first off-road retail store. He supplied every off-road component he could locate, as well as a vast range of off-road tires and wheels. There's something for everyone, from soft-sand jacks and desert safety guides to tents, auxiliary lights, and other necessities for productive desert travels.
Dick Cepek, Inc. grew to a worldwide retailer, selling items in South Africa, Italy, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Two years later, he launched a wholesale business to sell items to other worldwide stores, an instant achievement. He launched the second retail shop in El Cajon, Calif., soon after opening the wholesale segment. As they say, the rest is history. He established many locations in the Southwest area of the United States and a retail store in Japan in 1988.
