If you're looking to take your Toyota 4Runner or FJ Cruiser to the next level, the Camburg Trail Series Long-Travel kit is worth a serious look. I’ve had my hands on this kit for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s a game changer for both daily driving and those gnarly off-road adventures.
This kit is all about flexibility. Whether you want to gradually customize your ride or go all out, it’s got you covered. Camburg has pulled in some serious tech from their race series and even the Ford Raptor long-travel kits, giving you an impressive boost in wheel travel and stability. You’ll notice the extra 2 inches of width per side, which, by the way, lets you keep your OEM fenders and flares with just a bit of trimming. That’s a win for those of us who want to maintain that factory look without breaking the bank.
One of the coolest things about this setup is its compatibility with popular coilovers from brands like FOX, King, Bilstein, and Icon. If you’ve already got some coilovers installed, you can stick with those or opt for extended travel versions for even more performance. And if you really want to dial in your ride, I’d suggest pairing this kit with Camburg’s 2.5 Slapper Bump Stop Kit. It makes a noticeable difference in control and bottoming resistance.
When it comes to the hardware, Camburg doesn’t cut corners. The kit includes boxed lower arms that feature 1" uniball pivots at the frame and their unique X-joint at the spindle/knuckle. You can also upgrade to a billet upper arm with 7/8 heims at the frame and a beefy 1.25 uniball at the spindle, which adds even more strength. Plus, the heat-treated 4340 extended length front axle shafts are a solid touch for 4WD models.
Just a heads up, this kit is designed for non-KDSS equipped models only, so make sure you check that before diving in. And if you’ve got Camburg upper arms already, they won’t be compatible with this kit due to the increased track width. Installation isn’t for the faint of heart—be ready for some cutting, welding, and grinding, as you’ll need to remove factory mounts from the frame.
So, if you’re ready to elevate your ride and tackle any terrain with confidence, the Camburg Trail Series Long-Travel kit is definitely worth considering. It’s been a solid addition to my setup, and I think you’ll appreciate the difference it makes.
