Every CP-Carrillo rod is proudly manufactured in the USA, using oversized proprietary steel forgings. This approach ensures optimal grain flow and guarantees the removal of any surface inclusions. From the moment we start crafting our rods to the extreme demands of the racing world, you can count on their consistency and reliability.

Innovative Material: Carrilloy

At CP-Carrillo, we use a proprietary steel known as Carrilloy to manufacture our connecting rods. This unique alloy, which consists of chrome, nickel, moly, and vanadium, meets all VAR (vacuum arc re-melt ASTM standards). Think of Carrilloy as an enhanced version of an existing SAE specification, where we tighten the acceptable attributes during the manufacturing process. The heat treatment is validated by both our supplier and an independent metallurgist to ensure that the steel has the desired physical and chemical properties.

Fastener System: A Key Component

When it comes to high-performance connecting rods, the fastener system is arguably the most critical part of the assembly. That's why it's essential to follow installation instructions carefully and use the recommended lubrication. With nearly fifty years of experience, CP-Carrillo has become synonymous with some of the most trusted fasteners in the industry. Our designs are based on known yield loads, and we ensure that during the linear stretch of the bolt, this load is never exceeded. We recommend a stretch value of 80% of the yield load as calculated in a tension-torque diagram.

While torque figures are commonly used for tightening fasteners, we prefer the stretch method. Why? Because torque can be influenced by several variables, such as the lubrication used, thread conditions, and dimensional integrity, which can all affect the true preload you're aiming for. By using the stretch method, we find that high-quality fasteners provide the least deviation, resulting in proper preload and performance.
