Welcome to CP-Carrillo, where we take pride in offering you the finest engine connecting rods available. But let’s be clear—manufacturing a CP-Carrillo engine connecting rod is about so much more than just cutting a forging, meeting production targets, or shipping deadlines. It’s a finely-tuned collaboration among a team of talented specialists who are passionate about their craft.
Each CP-Carrillo connecting rod is a masterpiece of precision. Our material specialists, forging experts, production craftsmen, design engineers, and engine specialists all come together to ensure that every rod meets the highest standards. Our engineers are constantly refining designs in pursuit of that ever-elusive perfection in performance.
Every CP-Carrillo rod is proudly made in the USA from oversized proprietary steel forgings. This careful selection of materials allows for optimal grain flow and ensures the removal of any surface inclusions. You can count on these rods to be consistent and reliable, whether you’re hitting the track or just cruising around town.
We use a unique steel alloy known as Carrilloy for our connecting rods. This specially formulated blend of chrome, nickel, moly, and vanadium meets all VAR (vacuum arc re-melt ASTM standards). We’ve taken an existing SAE specification and fine-tuned it to enhance its attributes during manufacturing. The heat treatment process is validated by both our supplier and independent metallurgists, ensuring the steel possesses the desired physical and chemical properties.
When it comes to high-performance connecting rods, the fastener system is arguably the most critical part of the assembly. That’s why installing the fastener correctly, using the recommended lube, is essential. With nearly fifty years of experience, CP-Carrillo has become known for its reliable fasteners in the industry. Our designs are based on known yield loads, and we recommend aiming for an 80% stretch value of the yield load, as outlined in a tension-torque diagram.
While torque is a common method for tightening fasteners, we prefer the stretch method. Why? Because torque can be influenced by numerous factors—like the type of lube used, thread condition, and dimensional integrity—that can throw off your preload target. By using the stretch method, we’ve found that high-quality fasteners maintain their integrity with less deviation, ensuring proper preload every time.
