If you’re looking to seriously upgrade your Mazda RX-7’s performance, this intercooler kit is where it’s at. We put this kit to the test on our shop car, that eye-catching yellow FD you see in the photos. It’s running a T66 turbo, Haltech, and all the supporting mods you can think of. Originally, we had an Apexi FMIC kit installed, and while it did the job to some extent, we noticed the charge air temps creeping up to around 140-150 degrees. That’s when things started getting dicey—detonation in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears was a real concern, as indicated by our J&S Knock sensor. Plus, the coolant temps were hovering over 210 degrees, which is a bit too hot for comfort, especially when you’re pushing a pump gas tune at 21psi (10.5 AFR with 10 degrees of ignition timing).
Once we switched to this new intercooler kit, everything changed. The charge air temps dropped significantly to a cool 110 degrees, with the highest we’ve seen being just 122 degrees. That reduction allowed us to confidently crank up the boost to 23psi on pump gas without any detonation issues. And it gets better—the coolant temps fell to a steady 185-195 degrees and have never exceeded 200 degrees, all while keeping the stock bumper intact. We’ve even had customers with body kits report even better temperature reductions. For a T66 turbo running at 20psi, typical charge air temps sit between 95-110 degrees, and coolant temps around 180-185 degrees. This kit really delivers on performance.
One of the standout features of this ETS intercooler kit is how it fills the entire stock bumper opening. With a generous 30" tank-to-tank dimension, it outshines other kits on the market. It’s built with a large 24x9x3.5 Bar and Plate core (and there’s a 4" option if you want to go even bigger). Plus, it looks killer—filling the grill perfectly, and it works seamlessly with both USA and JDM fog lights, as well as most aftermarket body kits.
