When it comes to maximizing the performance of your Mazda RX-7, the Extreme Turbo Systems 800-10-IC-12 Intercooler Kit stands out as a game-changer. Developed in our shop car—a yellow FD equipped with a T66 turbo and a Haltech engine management system—this intercooler kit delivers unparalleled performance enhancements that every RX-7 owner will appreciate.
Initially, our RX-7 was running an Apexi FMIC kit, which, while decent, allowed charge air temperatures to spike to a concerning 140-150 degrees. This led to slight detonation issues in higher gears, as indicated by our J&S Knock sensor. Additionally, coolant temperatures frequently exceeded 210 degrees, even with a pump gas tune set at 21psi (10.5 AFR, 10 degrees ignition timing). After installing the ETS intercooler, we saw a dramatic drop in charge air temperatures to a mere 110 degrees, with peaks only reaching 122 degrees. This significant reduction enabled us to confidently run 23psi on pump gas without any detonation.
Moreover, coolant temperatures stabilized between 185-195 degrees, never exceeding 200 degrees, all while retaining the stock bumper. For those with aftermarket body kits, we’ve observed even lower temperatures. On a typical T66 turbo setup at 20psi, you can expect charge air temperatures to range between 95-110 degrees and coolant temperatures around 180-185 degrees.
Upgrade your Mazda RX-7 with the Extreme Turbo Systems 800-10-IC-12 Intercooler Kit and experience the difference in performance and reliability. This is more than just an intercooler; it’s a vital component for any enthusiast looking to push their RX-7 to the next level.
