So, you’re looking to boost your Mazda RX-7’s performance? Let me tell you about our Standard Single and Twin Turbo kit. This setup features 2.5" piping that runs smoothly from the turbo right up to the throttle body elbow. If you’re rocking a Greddy Elbow on the throttle body side, you’ll want to grab our 3" Greddy Elbow Pipe for the driver side. For those of you who want to kick it up a notch, there’s an option to upgrade both long engine compartment pipes to 3", but keep in mind that this is only for cars equipped with the Greddy Elbow and a Single Turbo. The two short pipes connecting to the intercooler and its inlet/outlet will still be 2.5".
If you're thinking about upgrading from Twin to Single turbos, you’ll need to snag a new Single Turbo upgrade Pipe (check the piping section) along with a 2.5" 90 Degree Silicone Elbow. Trust me, it’s worth it.
Now, let’s talk performance. We put this kit through its paces on our shop car (the yellow FD you see in the pictures), which runs a T66 turbo, Haltech, and all the supporting mods you can think of. Initially, we had an Apexi FMIC kit on it, and while it was decent, we noticed the charge air temps creeping up to around 140-150 degrees. Not ideal. We even experienced slight detonation in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears, as our J&S Knock sensor was quick to point out. Plus, the coolant temps were often over 210 degrees. And all of this was happening while we were running a pump gas tune at 21psi (with a 10.5 AFR and 10 degrees ignition timing).
After switching to this kit, everything changed. The charge air temperatures dropped significantly to around 110 degrees, with the highest we’ve seen being 122 degrees. This drop allowed us to run 23psi safely on pump gas without any detonation. The coolant temps also got a nice reduction, sitting between 185 and 195 degrees, never exceeding 200 degrees. And we did all of this with a stock bumper! Some of our customers with body kits have even reported even lower temperatures. Typically, with a T66 turbo at 20psi, you can expect charge air temps around 95-110 degrees and coolant temps around 180-185 degrees. What’s more, the ETS intercooler kit fills the stock bumper opening perfectly, thanks to its ultra-wide 30" tank-to-tank dimension, which is a big win over other kits.
