Can you believe it’s been 20 years since the first dual outlet blow-off valve hit the scene? Back in '98, when the world was a different place—think flip phones and dial-up internet—GFB’s own John Adrian was fed up with his WRX stalling out because of some atmospheric venting BOV. So, he rolled up his sleeves and created something that changed the game: the Hybrid.
This wasn’t just any BOV; it was the first of its kind. The Hybrid had two venting ports designed to open in stages. What does that mean for you? Well, the recirc port kicks in before the atmo port, which helps keep your car from backfiring and stalling—especially important for those with a MAF sensor. And of course, you still get that sweet blow-off sound when you’re pushing your ride.
Fast forward a couple of decades, and this tech has been copied by pretty much every BOV brand out there. The Hybrid paved the way for GFB’s next innovations, like the Respons TMS and the Deceptor Pro. But hey, it’s time for the Hybrid to make a comeback. After being off the market for a bit, GFB is re-releasing this classic to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
And get this: the Hybrid didn’t just sit around collecting dust. It won a Global Media Award at the 2017 SEMA show, beating out 3,000 other entries. That’s a big deal, folks.
The new version keeps the same staged venting system as the original but now lets you customize how it vents. You can go full recirc, full atmosphere, or split it 50/50, depending on what you’re after. Plus, there’s a wide range of direct bolt-on kits available for popular vehicles, so you can snag one without any hassle. It’s a solid piece of history for your ride, and it won’t break the bank.
